PROJECT BRIEF

Cloud House began as a standard late-1990s Chula Vista suburban home with a compartmentalized plan and dated interior language. Basecamp reworked the center of the house around a new open kitchen, a 10-foot picture window, and a cleaner structural layout that brought light, proportion, and calm into the main living space.

The project required a careful design balance: modernizing the home without creating a hard break from its existing California mission-style context. From spatial planning to finish execution, the work was led in-house as a full design-build effort—turning a familiar suburban shell into a lighter, more refined home with a clear aesthetic point of view.

PROJECT BRIEF

Basecamp’s role in this collaborative project was to translate Sunset Projects’ design direction into a finished interior environment - aligning the client’s expectations, the designer’s vision, and the realities of construction into one cohesive space.

The project relied heavily on design assist, project management, and close communication between the client, creative team, vendors, and trades. Basecamp also executed specialty high-end finishes throughout the space, helping carry the intended tone, materiality, and atmosphere through the build. The result is a quiet, considered backdrop for Sunset Projects’ custom furniture and casework, and for PARU Tea’s specialty retail experience.

PARU Tea Salon was a commercial renovation in La Jolla, California, completed in collaboration with PARU Tea and Sunset Projects.

PROJECT BRIEF

Iowa Street ADU was a ground-up residential project in North Park, San Diego, built on an extremely constrained urban site near the 805. The structure’s narrow footprint, vertical height, and limited setbacks created a construction sequence that required careful planning, trade coordination, and constant attention to site logistics.

Basecamp supported the designer-developer through the build by coordinating trades, sequencing work around tight site conditions, and helping translate a unique design into a buildable construction process. The project demanded a practical, phased approach to access, staging, and field decision-making—turning a challenging site into a completed structure with a distinct presence in its neighborhood.
